Transformers FansProject Stormbomb CA-04 aka Decepticon Insecticon Bombshell Real Vs KO

As collectors, we transverse between the realms of BS and truth. We, for the most part, believe that other collectors will be honest to us in sales and trade posts and dealings. We try to believe that when they say an item is legit, complete, and undamaged or broken that they are indeed telling the truth. Unfortunately, this doesn't always the case. There are less than honest sellers, dealers, and just plain old scumbags that lead to the situation I ran into 3 years ago. I purchased what I thought was an official Fansproject Stormbomb from a fellow "collector" on Facebook. Stormbomb was the last figure needed to complete my trio of insecticons. I even overpaid for it at a whopping $60. It wasn't until it arrived and removed from its clam shell that I noticed it was a KO. Whats a Ko? Simply put its a knockoff of an item made to look like the original and usually sold at a cheaper price. I contacted the seller about it, but because he was an admin of the group I purchased the item from, I was simply blocked and removed from the group. And so I was stuck with my knockoff figure....

At least until 3 weeks ago when I found a loose version stated to be an original listed on Ebay. I was hesitant to purchase the loose figure, to be honest, since I had no way to know if it was real or KO. I did an internet search in the hopes to find some visual comparison guides between the two and found none.  I asked on Facebook groups and got even less help. I did get a story from a guy that stated the real version squished/pinched his dingus and the ko didn't. Why he lets his toys do that to his unmentionables is beyond me but hey to each their own. We all have our weird ...So I took the plunge and bought the figure off ebay. Once it arrived I noticed the quality difference right away and have come to the conclusion that it is indeed a legit item. I also decided I wanted to do this comparison blog post to help others in their purchases.

So here I go on what I have gleaned difference wise between the two that can be seen visually. Hope it helps....

Upper Body Differences

Head Refinement

The head on the original looks clean with detailed straight lines. The details just pop. On the ko they look more muted as if the figure has wear and the details have been worn down. The paint on the Ko also looks sloppy.

Grill Plates on the Arms

One of the first things I noticed on the figure were the Different colored grill plates on the shoulder pads. The grey paint used on the original figure are a darker shade of grey than on the ko.

.

Difference in the Grey plastics

On the original figure the grey plastics on both the figure parts and its weapons have a sheen almost metallic or polished look to it. The Ko is just a flat light grey plastic. Once in hand you will also notice that the Ko's grey plastic feels cheaper, softer and has more bend/play in it.

Upper arm Differences

Under the shoulder cover there is an arm joint. On the original the joint is more recessed. While on the Ko it protrudes more out. The upper arm is connected by a mushroom joint. On the Ko it is a thicker joint that doesn't allow it to be slid all the way in. This is creating stress on the arm piece it slides into. Then there are the injection mold marks. On the Ko there is a single injection mold mark. On the original it has 2. Elbow wise there is a pin that allows for articulation. The original has a larger pin while the Ko has a skinnier pin.

I am including some secondary pictures of the arms without the circled areas for the details can be seen better.

Original

 KO

Lower Body Differences

Ab Plates divide

On the figures there are what look to be abs. There is a line that separates the 2 sides of the abs. On the Original the line is very thin. While on the KO it is clearly wider.

Different sized trapezoidal shape on Crotch

What is a trapezoid? Well it's this:

The figure has that shape on its crotch piece. The original has a longer version on it while the ko's is noticeably shorter. So I guess in this case size does matter.

Cut line on the hip covers

The hip skirts have this circular design that is cut in half. On the original there is a lip that protrudes from the circle bit. On the KO the cut is right up to the circle bit no lip at all.

Leg details gap

The figure has 2 details on his legs. They are split apart by a gap between them. On the original this gap is thinner. The Ko's gap is wider again almost looking as if the mold had been stretched out.

Insect Leg Pins

Talking about pins there is also a difference in the insect leg joint pins. On the original they used a closed off pin. While in the KO it is a hollowed out pin.

Back of the Legs

On the back of the robots legs you will notice a few differences as well. The legs tab together to form the back of the insect. the connection tabs are reversed on the ko from how they are on the original. I have marked them below.

Heels

The heels of the robots have a longer peg on one side to allow the figure to do an a stance. On the Ko this piece is on the inside instead of the outside like they should be.

Knee screws

On the original the knee screws are on the inside so they would be less visible. On the ko I am not sure if the same knee joint was used on both sides to save costs but you can see the screw on the outside of one knee. Mine has his on the left. But I have seen pictures of the screw showing on the right as well.

That's it for the visible items I found. Now there are Things you will notice once the figure is in hand. The feel of the plastic on the KO is softer feeling. The Ko weighs less. The joints are very loose. Now I am sure most of these issues can be fixed. But the mold differences can't be changed.

Visibly In Hand Differences

Details

As I look through out the figure I noticed that the entire figure on the ko has this worn down or stretched out details. The original just looks cleaner all the way around.

Injection Sprue cut marks.

Sprue cut marks! Oh so many sprue cut marks. The ko is suffering from many many visible sprue cut marks. The one seen most times are on the head armor? piece on the left. But upon inspection I found a few on the arms and legs. Which are not there on the original.

Darker Purple Plastic

On the Original the purple plastic used on the body is more muted or lighter. On the Ko it is a deeper richer looking purple. Actually I think I prefer the darker purple of the ko. Unfortunately this color difference is hard to capture on camera.

Final Thoughts

Hopefully this guide will help all my fellow collectors from being scammed out of their hard earned money. I would do the other kos of this set but I don't have them.If someone wants to send them to me I'll gladly take them! I may just try to fix this ko to see how right I can make it. As for the idiots on Facebook that rather mock or give asinine jerk answers to people's questions, I say this: Just because you can be a Jerk doesn't mean you have to be. Just because you may have issues that make you want to make others feel bad or little that doesn't mean you should. Get the help you need instead of being a jerk. Because in reality it doesn't make you look funny. It doesn't make you seem like a good joyful person. It makes you look sad, mean and dumb. Remember folks be good to each other and God Bless.

Renderform RF-016 Death Czar Upgrade Kit Transformers Deathsarus review

Well I am finally out and ready to do a new review. I swear you tell one doctor you are waiting for your brothers from Aguero10 to pick you up in their spaceship and they automatically think you are nuts. Luckily I told them I am related to soccer star Sergio Aguero and can get them all autographs so they let me out early! Up today is a figure I was able to trade with a friend for. While I have the retail version of this figure what I didn't have is the Renderform RF-016 Death Czar aka Deathsaurus add-on parts and toyhax sticker set that he had added to his Transformers Beast Hunters Darksteel action figure.

RF-016 Death Czar Add on kit

On the renderform site it doesn't show some of the accessories that were included with my new figure so I don't know is this is the 100 LE second run or maybe a few things added from somewhere else in addition with the set. Mine came with :

Deathsaurus Head

Whaaa!!!

I really like the look of the head. It has a strong headmasters cartoon look and feel. The colors match the figure as well. The plastic is nice and feels sturdy. Unfortunately it also has an over sized right eye. This really hurts the face of this custom head. I keep thinking this con is looking at me perplexed and saying "What the Hell!!" Hopefully I can paint it and cover it up a bit cause it's freaking me out man. Stop looking at me dammit!!

*UPDATE **

Jimmy Blanco: Cool pics. FYI the head gimmick was explained when,it,was live on Renderform and a majority of,the fan response said they didn't care and to produce!

While I can understand the pleasing of the fans. At some point the designer should have thought long term and made a simple notch on the light pipping piece and gotten it right. But then again that's my opinion.
Gun

The gun included is a large dark grey rifle with a bayonet connected to the bottom of it. A nice touch is the D-336  imprinted on the blade that coincides with Deszaras's Japanese ID number. The rifle fits perfectly into the robots clawed hands. The gun has some weight but still feels oddly light. Plastic quality of the rifle feels weird as well. Almost like a bad burger king toy or crayon. Now I am not saying it is a weak plastic just saying it has a weird texture and feel to it.

Shield

I have not been able to find this attachment on the renderform website. I have no idea where it came from or who made it. But I am sure someone will say "Hey stupid it this..."
UPDATE** I was right someone let me know what this piece is!! Jimmy Blanco states the shield is a Kabaya Deszaras shield glued to" ***  So there you have it folks it is the Kabaya Deszaras shield. This shield works and looks good as well. Mine was missing 2 screws so I took them from a junker robot I had and used those. This in turn made the piece more solid. The grey on the shield is a better match to the figures grey then the gun.

Ball & Chain Attachment

Another mystery added piece. Like the shield it works and looks like a closer match to the original Transformers Prime Darksteel figure's color scheme than the renderform custom parts. The blue on the attachment piece actually matches the blue on the toyhax leg stickers as well. It's also pretty fun to play with. Why you running Adam!?! Let me hit you across the head again!! It's just a toy dammit.

 Robot Mode

Everyone looks cool when pointing a gun up into the sky!

The robot mode and its articulation is exactly the same as it's retail release. No added articulation with the add on kit at all. Come to think of it the new head hinders the heads overall movement. While it is nice to look at the new head, it doesn't take advantage of the ball joint other than spinning a full 360. It can't be rotated upwards. The sticker set does give a nice upgraded look onto the mostly blue predacon body. What was nice is the addition of a clear Decepticon sticker added onto the wings. The white really pops against the orange wing stickers. The add on parts don't hinder the robot mode at all and with the great articulation the toy already had some interesting gun poses can be uh posed. The stickers, toy mold, and upgraded head work well together and nicely match the Transformers Victory breastmaster Deathsaurus look.

Don't mind the gun pointed at your chest!

Beast Mode

Ok, with all the good there has to be some bad right? Well this is exactly where the bad comes into fruition, mostly due to the slagging head. The upgraded head is too large to fit into the hollow area the original head went into. To change it into dragon mode the grey rotating piece for the head has to be detached from the dragon neck. Once flipped, the head piece cradles into the hollow neck area. The piece is simply laid onto the area and not able to be attached.Upon examining the head, I think if it had a groove made to allow the ball joint's stem to go through, it would have fixed this clearance issue and given the head the ability to look up.  The larger rifle does not fit into the post on the dragon's back or tail bone unfortunately. I was thinking of filing it down to fit, but then the fear of it being thinned out too much to fit properly into the robots hands came into mind. The shield and ball and chain attachments fit perfectly though, making me believe strongly  that they are indeed from some other set. So off to the side the large gun goes to wonder why it is so useless in dragon mode.

Good Doggy!

OVERALL

The toyhax sticker sheet works great. The Hasbro action figure works. The renderform add on kit works.... well...in robot mode. They all add up to make a great representation of the Decepticon General Deathsarus in robot mode. Someone every autobot should fear. Unfortunately the renderform parts don't work well at all in beast mode. The head and gun handle tolerances are really bad issues in the design. Now I know some White Knights will try to defend the guy by saying things like "Hey be happy the guy designed and made them" and "He's a good guy you just don't know him", blaa, blaa, blaa.  But to this I say hey he designed them for a transformer. A transformer is a robot that well transforms (yes I know about Action Masters) from robot mode into another shape. Now if this was a non-transforming robot like say a Gundam (and yes I know some gundams transform)  then this set would be perfect. Unfortunately designers need and should take these alt modes into consideration when designing parts for Transformers. Now I am not a designer but a slotted light pipping back piece has been designed and used a lot. Was there no way to think of that hollow area situation while designing a head that goes into it? Is a handle that has only one place to go into in beast mode that hard to design for? So while I am happy with the overall look of the kit for this figure I still feel a little more could be done to make it work better. Heck I even ordered an "instock" RF-015F Night Shade Final Edition 4 months ago and plan to review that once it or if it ever gets here as well. Now to get back to those "Autographed" cards. Uh does anyone know how to spell Sergio Aguero in Spanish?

Sleek and Stylish

No more beggin strips for you.
So stop looking at me like that.

Year of the Snake Fatimus whoops I mean Optimus Prime Review

I am a Fat man. I don't mean Phat (is that even a word anymore?) I mean Fat. I like my food like I like my women with a little heft to them. So when I saw an Optimus Prime action figure that was a little chunky and with boobs larger than mine I knew it was a must get. So let's check out Fattimus Prime "Year of the Snake" Edition!!

Fattimus Prime is a recolored rendition of Transformers Energon Optimus Prime. What is year of the Snake you ask? Well Takara/ Tomy and Hasbro decided to rehash certain figures to well.... line their pockets. Every year they come out with a new Year of Something horribly recolored figure(s) to coincide with the Chinese Zodiac of that year.

The Snake occupies the sixth position in the Chinese Zodiac. The 12 zodiac animals are, in order: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Each year is related to a Chinese zodiac animal according to the 12-year-cycle.

So let's check this chubby tubby figure out, shall we?

VEHICLE MODE

While trying to figure out what dang truck this Prime is I found this quote:

"Super class Energon Optimus Prime transforms into a Cybertronic short-nosed truck cab."

Now my dad was a truck driver for a very long time and I have never ever seen a truck like this. Ever, Ever? Ever Ever Ms Jackson. I ams for real...Never meant to make your daughter cry.... Whoa! A.D.D.  kicked in for a second there. Back to point.. when I read that line it hit me as :

"We don't know what the bleeping **** he is. Lets just go with Cybertronic truck. Yeah that's it. Sounds good go with it"

He is a truck (and I use that term loosely) with a very large windshield and a truck body smaller than the width of said windshield. So I am thinking the designer must have never googled the word truck or seen any of Optimus Prime's prior modes before designing this figure. In the end its an ugly fugly truck that is not realistic in any way.  Add in his trailer that opens upwards and well fail is all over this design. And yes I know it can be stood up on its back. But honestly could you imagine doing that in real life. Can Ya? I can just imagine his drill drone being launched upwards and heading right straight back down onto the trailer. So Cybertronic truck it is.

Uhh Prime, I don't think this right?

Go! Go! Power Rangers.... Uhhhhh Awkward!

My Lumps! My Lumps!

What do you mean we are out of windshield wiper fluid again?
That's the fifth time today!!

I do NOT look like a strangled mobile skating ramp!

DRONES
(No the US Government is not watching you. But they do love the new furniture in the your bedroom )

Optimus comes with 4 drones that become his arms and legs in "Super Duper Look at Me" mode. They consist of

Sooper Brown Drill Drone!!

I have no idea why they went with brown on this one since the lucky colors for year of the snake is Red, Black and Yellow. But this thing is brown and not an appealing brown either. They did paint the spinning front drill silver. Unfortunately they forgot to paint the windshield on the vehicle. How are the poor tiny people that drive this thing supposed to see?"

Please don't scream too loud if I hit your gums... It will only hurt for a second.

Sooper Black Helichopper Drone!!!

This drone is one of the cooler colored ones. The black body with blue windows and silver highlights work. It also has a big yellow spot. That used to be where the drone numbers on the original release were. Now I think it was done to have the lucky Yellow color. The blades on this vehicle do spin but now for very long. The tail of the helicopter also feels like an after thought.

After Airwolf was cancelled, the star of the show found a new gig.

Sooper Grey Boat uhh Submarine uhh Space ship....  uhhh looking thing.. What the hell is it  Drone

Now I am told it is a submarine but this thing has a giant claw connected to it's under body. I have to wonder how the hell would that work under water? Add in the fact that most of prime's battles are on the ground or in space and this is a pretty useless drone. Well useless for most of the time. Don't worry buddy one day Megatron will be fighting Aquaman and you will be called up to duty!! We promise. Whoops forgot to say he is grey, red and uhh yellow.

Hey!  Who let this guy in? This isn't Voltron!  Uhhh, well, close enough I guess...

Sooper Red Fire Truck Drone

So, Elita One , I heard you have a little fire burning?

This drone makes more sense than the others. It is a red Fire Truck with a ladder that goes up and down and extends out. It looks right. Now in reality, based on the size they are next to Prime's cab.....it is way too small and can only probably save small kittens and squirrels. But honestly who wants to save the gangsters of the forest also known as squirrels.

Youse Got a problem with us?

I get the drones . I do. But really? Why choose these vehicles? Who the hell can they save? They are too dang small compared to the funky chunky monkey truck. They make no sense. The designer already created a "Cybertronian" truck.  Why not create some...oh, I don't know, some "Cybertronian" drones? Something that can not be connected visually to a human made vehicle that carries uhhhhh Humans. Look Mr. or Mrs. designer we all don't fit into smart cars and not all cars are smart cars. We need elbow space!

One size fits all my ass!

ROBOT MODE

Yeah baby move those hips!! Oh dam is that you Optimus Prime? Nice uhh birthing hips and when did you get a boob job?

What can I write. What can I write? ... Energon Prime recolored into G1 colors?  Now the visual feel of this aspect is uhh off to say the least. Between the large window chest and wide waist it feels like a female robot version of Kim Kardashian. Heck he even has her skinny legs.

Breaking News!! Kim tells all!!
I was the inspiration behind this figure!!

Really!! Couldn't have just stalked her like normal folks Mr. Designer?

Twins right?!?! After playing with this figure you could see that the figure was limited on purpose so that it could form it's super mode. While it has articulation, it's hindered due to the large, oversized albeit sexy body of the toy.

Aim for the Stars!

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooperrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr MODE!!!!

So it all leads into this!! The super slick super sexy God Mode oh wait I mean Sooper Fatimus Prime Mode!!

Run in Fear Decepticons!!

Ok let's do it!!  Wait, is that it?" No seriously where is the dang Sooper Dooper I love ravioli Mode? Stop playing with my emotions!!  Uhh, so...this is, well, it. Now I know I am supposed to have his chest windows opened up but it looks silly. It really does. He already has big window boobs does he really need a large target on his chest? The figure does have some good articulation. But the look is so off. It feels like something my 6 year old nephew would have colored. And he painted Spider-man green, red, blue, yellow, orange and pink. You know like that crappy picture you have on your refrigerator door where every part of the character on the page is a different color like some weird Frankenstein monster. Except Dr. Frankenstein picked a more uniform look for his monster. Hell even Voltron and the Megazords are a little more sensible color wise. And that's saying a lot right there in that comment.

Walk this way!!

Fist Bump?
Ok , I think we can both use a fist bump at this moment.

OVERALL

Hmm what can I say here.... It's a cool enough figure.... It just look all types of wrong. As the great Davestator said to me

"That figure always did look like they were ripping off the Power Rangers to me."

And I agree. It feels like this figure is trying to steal so many aspects from other lines in the hopes it will sell better this time around. They added the tag line to it "Year of the Snake" to peak interest. It doesn't work. If they had made it more uniform color choice this figure could have worked. This figure is one that really needs Dr. Woo upgrade parts that match the main body. It's just not enough effort wise on this Autobot. Add in the huge price increase and this figure just screams FAIL all the way around!! Easy Pass.

I have the Power!!

That's my line, bitch!!

Because a bladed arm is always useful

Hurry we need to get ready for the next review.

I SAID....I do NOT look like a strangled mobile skating ramp!

And here Cheney thought I was a goofball!

George, Dude you are a goofball!!
